🛒Ingredients
- Kale - prepare the kale by washing and rinsing it thoroughly to remove any dirt residue. A salad spinner can simplify this process! Opt for curly kale, or experiment with varieties like Lacinato (also known as Tuscan or Dinosaur kale).
- Olive oil - we only need a little! Opt for a high-quality olive oil to enhance the flavor of the kale chips.
- Seasonings - add a pinch of salt for seasoning, unless the ranch seasoning already contains sufficient sodium. Ranch is just an option and you can use any favorite spices you like!

🥣How To Make Kale Chips
STEP 1: Begin by washing and drying the kale leaves. Lay each leaf flat on a cutting board and carefully remove the stem.
STEP 2: Tear the leaves into larger bite-sized pieces, ensuring they're not too small to avoid burning. Let the kale dry thoroughly to achieve crispiness.
STEP 3: Place the torn kale leaves in a bowl and toss them with olive oil and ranch seasoning until each leaf is lightly coated.
STEP 4: Transfer the seasoned kale to the air fryer basket, making sure not to overcrowd it. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook the kale in batches.
Air fry the kale chips at 375°F for 3-4 minutes without shaking the basket.
SERVE! Once done, transfer the crispy kale chips to a serving plate. Enjoy them as they are or pair them with your favorite dip for a tasty snack.
Optionally serve with lemon juice and dipping sauces, though these chips are delicious on their own.
How To Pick Kale In Grocery Store
- Color: Check the kale for a vibrant green color, firmness, and absence of discoloration.
- Texture: Inspect for signs of insects or holes, indicating potential staleness from prolonged shelf time.
- Organic: Opt for organic and seasonal options when available. Wash with vegetable wash or soak in vinegar to remove pesticides.
📋Tips
- To ensure your kale will be crispy - Pat the leaves dry with a clean kitchen towel to remove excess moisture.
- Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to allow for proper air circulation; if necessary, cook in batches. Cook at a high temperature and shake the basket periodically for even cooking.
- Don't overfry - Watch carefully to prevent burning, removing the chips when crispy and lightly browned.
- Customize with various seasonings, toppings like nuts or seeds, nutritional yeast, or grated parmesan cheese.
Chips variation: For sweet twist, add cinnamon and sugar to your kale chips before air frying. When serving, give them an extra touch of sweetness with a drizzle of maple syrup or honey.
Storage Instructions
- 🍱To Store. Allow the chips to cool thoroughly before placing them in an airtight container. They can be stored at room temperature for 3-4 days.
- 🥶To Make Ahead. For prepping ahead, wash and rinse the kale, then lay it out on a large baking sheet to dry. Once dry, coat with oil, season, and air fry when ready.
- 🔥To Reheat. If they lose their crunchiness, simply air fry them again for a minute or two.
Variations
Try these seasonings:
- Black pepper or flavorful pepper such as lemon pepper
- Garam Masala
- Onion & Garlic powder
- Hot Chili Sauce
- BBQ Seasoning
- Sweet - Maple syrup, honey, caramel sauce
- Umami - soy, miso sauce, oyster sauce
- Make them cheesy with parmesan or nutritional yeast (for vegan)
