When it’s hot out and you’re craving something cool, refreshing, and not too sweet, this Classic Virgin Mojito Mocktail totally hits the spot. It’s fast to mix up, looks fancy enough for guests, and even the kids can enjoy it.

This is my go-to when I want that tropical mojito vibe minus the alcohol. Perfect for picnics, lazy weekends, or just a quick pick-me-up on a busy day.

🛒 Ingredients

  • Limes – Fresh lime juice is everything here. If you’re out of limes, lemon juice can save the day, but you’ll miss a bit of that mojito zing.
  • Mint leaves – The fresher, the better. Roll them between your palms before adding to release all that minty aroma.
  • Agave syrup – I love agave because it blends easily, but honey or simple syrup work too if that’s what you’ve got.
  • Carbonated drink – I usually use soda water for a classic taste, but Sprite adds a sweet, party-style twist.
Ice cubes – Load them up! Mojitos are best when icy cold.
  • If you like more refreshing mocktail and cocktail recipes, try piña colada mocktail, strawberry virgin mojito or frozen piña colada cocktail next.

👩‍🍳 You'll find the complete list of ingredients below the recipe card.

How To Make Virgin Mojito Mocktail

  1. Squeeze the limes: Cut the limes in half and squeeze the juice into a jug.
  2. Add the mint: Tear the fresh mint leaves into smaller pieces and add them to the jug.
  3. Sweeten it up: Pour in the agave syrup and stir well to combine the lime juice, mint leaves, and syrup.
  1. Chill it down: Add a handful of ice cubes to the jug to make it nice and cold.
  2. Add the fizz: Slowly pour the carbonated drink into the jug, stirring gently to mix everything together.
  3. Adjust the taste: Try a sip and add more agave syrup if you want it sweeter.
  4. Finish and serve: Crush a few mint leaves between your fingers to release their aroma and use them as a garnish. Serve in glasses filled with ice cubes and a fresh mint sprig.

Rita's Tip

Always add the soda LAST so your mojito stays fizzy and fresh until the very last sip.

📋 Tips

  • Fresh lime juice makes all the difference, so skip the bottled stuff if you can.
  • Don’t over-muddle or the mint can taste bitter.
  • Don’t skip the mint, it’s what gives that classic mojito flavor.
  • If you’re making a big batch, muddle the mint and lime in the pitcher before adding the soda.
  • Start with less syrup and adjust to taste at the end.
  • Want it sweeter? Add a splash more agave or use Sprite instead of soda water.
  • Freeze some mint or lime zest inside the cubes for extra flavor.
  • Chill the glasses for 10–15 minutes to keep the drink crisp.
  • Keep it lighter by using sparkling water and just a touch of syrup.
  • For a fun twist, throw in some crushed berries or cucumber slices.
  • Chill your glasses before serving for extra-refreshing sips.
  • Leftover mint? Freeze it into ice cubes with a bit of lime juice for your next drink.

👨‍🍳 Equipment I Love For This

  • Citrus juicer – Makes it easy to get every drop of fresh lime juice. Tip: A handheld press gives the best control and keeps seeds out of your drink.
  • Pitcher or jug – Perfect for mixing everything together without losing the fizz. Tip: Choose a glass pitcher so you can see the mint and lime - it's part of the presentation.
  • Wooden spoon or muddler – Helps gently bruise the mint to release its natural oils.
  • Measuring spoons – Keeps your sweetness level consistent every time.
  • Cutting board & sharp knife – For slicing and juicing the limes cleanly. Tip: Roll the limes on the counter first to make them easier to juice.
  • Tall glasses – Mojitos stay colder and look prettier in taller glasses.
  • Ice cube tray – Essential for loading your mojito with plenty of ice!
  • Reusable straws – Stainless steel straws stay cold and make each sip extra refreshing.

🍱 Storage Instructions

  • 🍱To Store. Keep any leftover mojito mix (without the soda) in the fridge for up to 2 days. Add the bubbles right before serving.
  • 🥶Freezing. You can freeze the lime and mint mix in ice cube trays. Pop one into sparkling water whenever you want a quick refresher.
