🛒Ingredients
- Frozen cheddar pierogis - you will find a bag of this in the frozen section or international food aisle in your local grocery stores. Aside from cheese filling, you can choose other varieties like mashed potatoes, Sauerkraut, ground meat, mushrooms, etc.
- Alfredo sauce - use your favorite brand! Do not skimp on this because using good-quality sauce will make the dish even better.
- Kielbasa sausage - this gives the dish a protein boost and a smoky and savory flavor as well as a meaty texture. You can use other types of sausages like Andouille if you do not have kielbasa. Alternatively, proteins like bacon, ham, chicken, and ground beef also work.
- Scallions - this adds a fresh, onion-like taste that will balance the richness of the cheese and sauce. I also like that it adds color and a crisp texture to the layers.
- Colby Jack - this is what makes the casserole so rich and gooey! Other easy-melt cheese like cheddar, Monterey jack, Mozzarella, Fontina, and Swiss would also be great with this dish. You can also use a combination of different cheeses.

🥘 How To Make Pierogi Casserole
Preparations. Preheat the oven to 350° and spray a 9x13 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
Assemble the ingredients in the casserole dish. Place half the bag of pierogis in the baking dish and spread it around.
Pour half of the Alfredo sauce on top of the pierogis.
Add half the sliced kielbasa on top.
Sprinkle half of the scallions on top as well.
Add half the cheese on top and now repeat all the steps starting with the pierogis one last time.
Bake. Spray one side of aluminum foil with nonstick cooking spray, cover the baking dish with the foil (greased side down) place in the oven, and cook for 20 minutes.
Once done remove the foil and bake for another 20-25 minutes until bubbly. Serve and enjoy!
📋Tips
- Greasing the foil before placing it on top of the casserole will prevent the cheese from sticking to it.
- Make sure that you evenly distribute the ingredients when layering to get even amounts of dumplings, sausages, and cheese in every serving.
- Use freshly shredded cheese only. I do not advise using packed shredded cheese because it contains anti-caking ingredients that affect the creaminess of the cheese when melted. Fresh cheese will give you the best texture!
- Add more color and texture by sprinkling frozen peppers and onions on top before baking.
- Why is my casserole dry? It can be because you used less sauce than needed, or it was overcooked which dried it out. This is why it is important to add foil in the initial process of baking.
- Let the casserole rest for a few minutes before serving. It will be easier to cut when it has settled after baking.
What are possible add-ons for this recipe? You can add vegetables like spinach, caramelized onions, and bell peppers in the layers.
Storage Instructions
- 🍱To Store. Let the casserole cool down before placing a foil or plastic wrap on top to cover it, or transfer it in a lidded container. You can keep it in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- 🥶Freezing. Wrap the pierogi casserole tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil before placing it inside a freeze-friendly container. Pierogi casserole can be stored in the freezer for up to 2 to 3 months.
- 🔥To Reheat. Place frozen casserole in the fridge overnight. Reheat using the oven at a low to moderate temperature (around 325°F or 163°C) until it's heated through. Make sure to place a foil cover to prevent the top from overbaking.
