🛒Ingredients For Marry Me Chicken Tortellini
- Chicken - you will need boneless, skinless cut into bite-size pieces. While “Marry Me Chicken” usually uses the breast part, you can use boneless skinless chicken thighs if you prefer.
- Cheese tortellini - these cheesy packets of pasta further enhance the texture and taste of the original “marry me chicken” recipe. While I love the chicken-cheese-cream sauce combo, feel free to use any flavor of tortellini you like.
- Spices and seasonings - this recipe calls for paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to give the chicken a savory, slightly peppery, and garlicky taste.
- Butter - adds a rich flavor to the dish and also makes the sauce smooth and velvety. Make sure to use unsalted butter and the recipes already account for salt.
- Heavy cream - makes the sauce super creamy and indulgent. Make sure that it is at room temperature to get a smoother, evenly cooked sauce.
- Chicken broth - this will give the sauce a better flavor and consistency, allowing it to cling to the chicken and pasta better. You can also use vegetable, bone broth, or plain water (will not be as flavorful though).
- Parmesan cheese - a comfort food is not complete without cheese! I suggest using freshly shredded parmesan instead of the pre-packed ones to achieve a velvety, gooey finish.
- Red pepper flakes - this is optional, but will add a nice punch of heat that makes the dish even more appetizing!
- Sun-dried tomatoes - provide a burst of acidity and a touch of color to the dish. You can also use cherry tomatoes as a substitute.

📋Tips For The Best Tortellini Pasta
- Sear the chicken. Let the seasoned chicken cook in the pan undisturbed for a minute or two to get that perfect seared side. This will make them flavorful and juicy.
- Save some of the pasta water. You can use this to adjust the consistency of the sauce, especially if it becomes too thick or dry.
- Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your liking. If you like the pasta extra spicy, you can add more or use chili powder instead. You can also add jalapeno rounds before serving.
- Use other proteins. Aside from chicken, you can use turkey, salmon, or smoked sausage.
- For quick fix, you can use ready-made sauce instead.
- Other pasta types - A good substitute for tortellini is ravioli. However, non-filled pasta like linguini, penne, and rigatoni will also work. Just add more cheese if you like.
Do not overcook the pasta. Tortellini cooks fast, so make sure to keep an eye on them so they do not get overcooked. Check the package instructions for guidance.
Storage Instructions
- 🍱To Store. Place leftovers in a container or cover the dish with foil before refrigerating. Make sure to consume within three days.
- 🥶Freezing. While you can freeze this dish for up to 2 months, it is important to note that the texture of the pasta and the cream-based sauce may not be the same once reheated.
- 🔥To Reheat. Reheat the thawed dish on the stovetop or in the microwave. If the sauce has separated or is too thick, you may need to add a bit of milk or cream while reheating to restore the creaminess.

the perfect cozy weeknight dinner - Marry Me Chicken Tortellini Pasta!
KS
A very flavorful dish, but mine was very soupy. Should I try again and cut the broth and cream in half? Or maybe double the tortellini? Not sure why there was so much liquid at the end.
Rita
Hi KS, perhaps you could simmer it for longer next time or indeed double the tortellini. Mine was not soupy.
Thomas
Pretty easy to throw together at 630pm. I sliced up a Green and Red pepper for some color and added flavors.
Simple, Easy, Good.
Thanks. 👍

Is the chicken cooked in oil or butter? I don’t think it said.
