If you need a quick dinner that’s tasty, simple, and something the whole family will love, these ground beef street tacos are a winner.

They’re easy to pull together on busy weeknights, and you can totally customize the toppings so everyone gets what they like

🛒 Ingredients

  • Ground beef – Lean works best so it stays flavorful without too much grease, but any ground beef you have on hand will work.
  • Tomato sauce – Adds a rich base for the beef. Puree works well too if you want extra smooth texture.
  • Olive oil – Keeps the beef from sticking and gives a nice mild flavor.
  • Taco seasoning mix – Store-bought is easy, but making your own means you can control the spice level.
  • Taco shells or tortillas – I love corn for that authentic street taco vibe, but flour tortillas are great if you want something softer.
  • Cheese & toppings – Cheddar, lettuce, sour cream, tomatoes, onions, the more toppings the more fun.
  • If you like more quick taco recipes, try steak tacos, mini wonton taco cups, or chicken tacos next.

👩‍🍳 You'll find the complete list of ingredients below the recipe card.

🥘 How To Make Ground Beef Tacos

  1. Cook the beef: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, then drain any extra grease.
  2. Mix in the sauce: Stir in tomato sauce, water, and taco seasoning. Bring to a simmer and cook 5–7 minutes so the flavors blend.
  1. Warm the shells: Heat taco shells or tortillas in a skillet or oven until soft and warm.
  2. Assemble the tacos: Spoon the beef mixture into shells, add your favorite toppings, and serve right away.

Rita's Tip

Slice your toppings in advance so you can assemble tacos fast after cooking the beef.

📋 Tips

  • Don’t rush browning the beef, a nice sear adds a lot of flavor.
  • You can skip draining if you like your tacos extra juicy.
  • Homemade taco seasoning is a great way to tweak flavors to your liking.
  • Corn tortillas give a traditional street taco vibe, but flour tortillas are soft and comforting.
  • If you want extra spice, add a dash of chili powder or hot sauce.
  • Sour cream balances spice and adds creaminess.
  • Cheese makes tacos feel indulgent, don’t skip it.

🍱 Storage Instructions

  • 🍱To Store. Keep beef in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • 🥶Freezing. Store cooked beef in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 3 months.
  • 🔥To Reheat. Heat beef in a skillet or microwave until warmed through.
