If you’re looking for a quick dinner that feels fun and family friendly, these breaded chicken skewers are it. They’re crispy, flavorful, and way easier than they look. Plus, you don’t have to deep fry anything, just a simple skillet, a bit of oil, and dinner is ready in under 10 minutes once they’re prepped.

These have been a lifesaver on busy nights when I want something the kids will devour but still feels a little special.

🛒 Ingredients

  • Chicken breast – Lean, quick to cook, and super tender when marinated in mayo. You can swap with chicken thighs if you like juicier meat.
  • Mayonnaise – This is the secret! It keeps the chicken juicy and helps the breadcrumbs stick. Greek yogurt can work in a pinch, but mayo gives the best flavor.
  • Italian-style breadcrumbs – Adds crunch and seasoning all in one. Panko makes them extra crispy, so use that if you like.
  • All-purpose seasoning – I like to use a salt-free blend so I can control the sodium. Even plain garlic powder and paprika work fine here.
  • Parmesan (optional) – If you want extra flavor, a sprinkle of parmesan mixed into the breadcrumbs makes them irresistible.
  • If you like easy chicken recipes, try lemon chicken, chicken tenders in air fryer, or baked pesto chicken next.

👩‍🍳 You'll find the complete list of ingredients below the recipe card.

🥘 How To Make Breaded Chicken Skewers

  1. Marinate the chicken: Cut chicken into strips and toss with salt, pepper, seasoning, and mayonnaise. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  2. Thread onto skewers: Slide the chicken onto small wooden skewers, keeping them flat so they cook evenly.
  3. Coat with breadcrumbs: Roll each skewer in breadcrumbs until coated on all sides.
  1. Fry: Heat a little olive oil in a skillet and cook skewers for 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
  2. Serve: Squeeze lemon juice on top, sprinkle parsley, and serve with dipping sauce.

Rita's Tip

Don’t skip the marinating step, the mayo makes the chicken stay tender and flavorful every single time.

📋 Tips

  • Let the chicken marinate at least an hour so the flavor really sinks in.
  • Keep the skewers in a single layer when frying so they crisp up evenly.
  • If you’re using panko, give them a quick spritz of oil before frying for extra crunch.
  • Wooden skewers can burn if they stick out too far, trim them or soak them in water first.
  • These cook fast, so keep an eye on them and don’t walk away from the pan.
  • If you’re avoiding frying, bake them on a rack in the oven or pop them in the air fryer.
  • Seasoning your breadcrumbs with garlic powder or paprika gives a nice kick.

🍱 Storage Instructions

  • 🍱To Store. Keep cooled skewers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • 🥶Freezing. Wrap cooked skewers in foil, then store in a freezer bag for up to 2 months.
  • 🔥To Reheat. Pop them in the oven or air fryer to bring back the crunch, skip the microwave if you can.

What To Serve With Breaded Chicken Skewers

  • A crisp green salad
  • Garlic butter noodles
  • Sweet potato fries for a fun twist
  • Roasted veggies
  • Mac and cheese if you want total comfort food
  • Warm pita bread with tzatziki or hummus for dipping
