What Kind Of Cake Should I Use?
You won’t need the entire cake for this ice cream recipe. Just about 2 cups worth of crumbled up goodness.
You have 3 options:
- Bake a vanilla cake and frost it with buttercream or store-bought frosting.
- Box mix for a quick option. Just follow the directions on the package and let it cool.
- Vanilla cupcakes from bakery store.
What Kind Of Sprinkles Should I Use?
Choose solid "jimmies" like Rainbow Jimmies to prevent bleeding into the ice cream. Avoid candy-coated varieties like nonpareils, as their color may swirl into the white ice cream base.
📋Tips
- Freeze the cupcake or cake beforehand. This will prevent them from crumbling too much in the ice cream, ensuring amazing cake chunks.
- Reserve more sprinkles for the toppings.
- Birthday cake ice cream varies widely. Some are vanilla-based, while others have a creamier texture or include flavors like almond or cherry. Feel free to add more flavor with extracts or cake mixes.
Storage Instructions
Stored in an airtight, insulated ice cream container it will last for a couple of weeks.
