🛒Ingredients
- Cocoa powder - gives a rich chocolate flavor.
- Coca cola - I used regular Coca-Cola, but any brand will do.
- Unsalted butter - cut into small cubes for quicker melting.
- Cinnamon - adds warmth and complements the cola flavor.
- Buttermilk - adds moisture, tenderness, and a hint of tang to the cake.
For Cola Frosting
The frosting for Coca-Cola cake stands out because it's cooked on the stove. This method intensifies the cola flavor and gives the frosting a glaze-like texture.
- Cola - reduce it fully to achieve the desired consistency.
- Cut the butter into small cubes for quicker melting.
- Cocoa - opt for unsweetened cocoa powder, as there's already plenty of sugar. Ensure powdered sugar is sifted well to prevent clumps.

Rita's Tip
This cake is incredibly moist with a rich chocolate fudge flavor that's not too heavy. I love adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top - it's optional, but highly recommended!
📋Tips
- Switch it up with Dr. Pepper or Root Beer instead of Coke.
- When it comes to the chocolate icing, don't wait too long to pour it over the cake. It sets quickly and can be tricky to spread if you delay.
- Nutty Addition. Chopped walnuts or pecans are a hit with this Coca-Cola cake recipe! Sprinkle them on top of the frosting for an extra crunch.
- Serve warm. If the cake has cooled completely, simply pop individual slices in the microwave for a few seconds before serving.
Storage Instructions
- 🍱To Store. Store cake leftovers in an airtight container or cover them. They can be kept at room temperature or in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- 🥶Freezing. You can freeze the cake with or without the fudge icing, but sometimes the icing doesn't hold up well when thawed. If you're planning to freeze the cake ahead, I suggest skipping the icing until the day before serving and adding it over the thawed cake.
