Preheat the oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit. In a mixing bowl, add in the sugar and flour then set aside.
2 cups white granulated sugar, 2 cups flour
Add the butter, oil, coca cola and coca powder to a saucepan and heat over medium heat. Let the mixture melt and come to a boil, stirring constantly.
1 cup coca cola, ½ cup vegetable oil, ½ cup butter, ⅓ cup cocoa powder
Once boiled, remove from the heat and add this to the sugar and flour mixture, stirring together and combining thoroughly.
Add in the eggs, buttermilk, vanilla, salt and baking soda to the mixture and whisk together for another minute until combined.
2 eggs, ½ cup buttermilk, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, ½ teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon baking soda
Pour the batter into a greased 9x11 inch baking pan coated with flour. Spread evenly. Bake in the oven for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove the cake from the oven and let cool for about 5-10 minutes while you make the frosting.
