Cook the pasta: Cook the spaghetti until al dente. Drain the pasta, but reserve ½ cup of the pasta cooking water.

Cook the asparagus: In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon butter and 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium heat. Add the asparagus and cook for about 4 minutes.

Add the aromatics: Add the red onion and garlic and cook for another 1 minute.

Build the base: Add the halved cherry tomatoes, tomato paste, and dried thyme. Season with salt and pepper and cook for about 2 minutes.

Make the sauce: Pour in the heavy cream and ½ cup of the reserved pasta water. Bring the sauce to a boil, then reduce the heat. Add the cooked spaghetti and cook everything together for about 3 minutes, until the pasta is heated through and coated in the sauce.
