Air fryer cookies are a quick and fun homemade treat.

These Air Fryer Chocolate Chip Cookies are shaped into cookie fries with crispy edges and soft, chocolatey centers. They're easy to make and perfect for busy families, beginner bakers, and after-school snacks.

I love serving them with a dipping sauce because they always disappear fast. If you're looking for cookies in air fryer that feel a little different from the usual batch of cookies, this recipe is a fun one to try.

Why This Recipe Works

These air fryer cookies work because of four simple things:

Save vegan recipes for later
Save recipes for later
  • Flavor balance. Brown sugar adds a rich caramel flavor, while granulated sugar helps create crisp golden edges. Vanilla and chocolate chips bring classic chocolate chip cookie flavor in every bite.
  • Texture contrast. The air fryer creates lightly crisp edges while keeping the centers soft and tender. The cookie fry shape gives you more crispy edges than a traditional cookie.
  • Smart ingredient choices. Mini chocolate chips distribute more evenly throughout the dough and make the cookie fries easier to slice cleanly before cooking.
  • Chilled dough. Chilling the dough helps control spreading and keeps the cookie fries looking like fries. This is where most people go wrong. Warm dough spreads quickly and can lose its shape in the air fryer.

The result is a fun, dippable dessert that's quicker than baking a full batch of cookies and perfect for family movie nights, parties, or after-school treats.

🛒 Ingredients

  • Unsalted butter - Softened butter gives the cookie fries a rich, classic cookie flavor. Make sure it is soft, not melted. Melted butter can make the dough spread too much.
  • Brown sugar - This keeps the centers soft and slightly chewy. That little caramel flavor is what makes these taste cozy.
  • Granulated sugar - This helps the edges turn crisp and golden. You need both sugars for the best texture.
  • Mini chocolate chips - Mini chips are the best choice here. Regular chips can make the dough harder to cut cleanly.
  • All-purpose flour - This gives structure. Spoon and level the flour so the dough does not turn dry.
  • Vanilla extract - A small ingredient, but worth it. If you have a good vanilla extract, use it here because the flavor really comes through.

🥣 How To Make Air Fryer Cookies Step-by-Step

  1. Make the dough: Cream the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy. It should look creamy, not greasy.
  2. Add egg and vanilla: Mix until fully combined. This is where the dough starts smelling like real cookie dough, which is always a good sign.
  3. Mix the dry ingredients: Whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt in another bowl.
  4. Combine: Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix or the cookie fries can turn tough.
  5. Fold in mini chocolate chips: Stir gently so the chips are evenly spread.

  1. Chill the dough: Refrigerate for 20 minutes. Do not skip this. Warm dough spreads fast in the air fryer.
  2. Shape the dough: Press or roll the dough into a ¼-inch-thick rectangle on parchment paper.
  3. Cut into fries: Slice into ½-inch-wide sticks, about 3 to 4 inches long. If the dough gets too soft, chill it again for 10 minutes.
  4. Preheat the air fryer: Set it to 350°F for about 3 minutes.
  5. Air fry: Place the cookie sticks in a lined basket with space between each one. Cook for 7 to 9 minutes, until the edges are golden.
  6. Cool before serving: Let them cool for 5 minutes before serving. They will firm up as they sit. I know it's hard to wait, but the texture gets even better after a few minutes of cooling.

Most Important Tip

Keep the dough cold before air frying so the cookie fries hold their shape.

Best Tips for Success

  • Use mini chocolate chips for cleaner cuts and more even distribution.
  • Do not overcrowd the basket. Good airflow helps the edges crisp up properly.
  • Cut the sticks as evenly as possible so they cook at the same rate.
  • If they spread and touch during cooking, gently separate them halfway through.
  • For extra crisp edges, cook 1 to 2 minutes longer until deeply golden.
  • Sprinkle flaky sea salt on top while they're still warm for a bakery-style finish.
  • Chilled store-bought cookie dough can work if you're short on time. Simply shape it into sticks before air frying.
  • Serve the cookie fries with chocolate sauce, caramel, or cream cheese dip for an extra fun dessert.
  • Let the cookie fries cool for 5 minutes before serving. They crisp up slightly as they cool.

❌ Don’t Make These Mistakes

  • Skipping the chilling step can cause the cookie fries to spread too much.
  • Thick cookie sticks may brown outside before the centers are cooked.
  • Overcrowding the air fryer basket prevents even crisping.
  • The cookie fries firm up as they cool, so avoid overcooking.
  • Large chocolate chips can make the dough harder to slice neatly.

Upgrade Variations

  • Cinnamon Sugar Cookie Fries. Skip the chocolate chips and roll in cinnamon sugar.
  • Double Chocolate Cookie Fries. Replace ¼ cup flour with cocoa powder.
  • Funfetti Cookie Fries. Swap the chocolate chips for rainbow sprinkles.
  • Peanut Butter Cookie Fries. Add 2 tablespoons peanut butter to the dough.
  • Dessert Shop Style. Serve with chocolate sauce, caramel, or vanilla ice cream.

What To Serve With Air Fryer Chocolate Chip Cookies

These cookie fries are made for dipping. Try them with:

  • Hot chocolate or iced coffee
  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Fresh fruit and berries
  • Chocolate or caramel sauce
  • Other air fryer desserts
  • Easy cookie recipes
  • No-bake desserts
  • Holiday baking favorites.

🍱 Storage Instructions

  • 🍱To Store. Keep baked cookie fries in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 to 3 days. They may soften slightly, but they will still taste delicious.
  • 🥶Freezing. Freeze the cut, unbaked cookie sticks on a tray, then move them to a freezer bag. Air fry from frozen and add 1 to 2 minutes.
  • 🕒 To Make Ahead. Make and chill the dough up to 24 hours ahead. Cut before cooking for the best shape.
  • 🔥To Reheat. Reheat in the air fryer at 320°F for about 2 minutes to bring back the crisp edges.

❓FAQs

Can I bake these instead of air frying?

Yes. Bake at 350°F for 10 to 12 minutes on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Do I need parchment paper in the air fryer?

It helps prevent sticking. A lightly greased basket also works.

Can I use regular chocolate chips?

You can, but mini chocolate chips are better because they make the sticks easier to cut.

Why did my cookie fries spread too much?

The dough was probably too warm. Chill it longer before air frying.

Can I freeze air fryer cookie dough?

Yes. Freeze the cut cookie fries on a baking sheet, then transfer them to a freezer bag. Air fry from frozen and add 1–2 extra minutes.

These Air Fryer Chocolate Chip Cookies are one of my favorite easy desserts when I want something fun without a lot of effort. Keep the dough chilled, grab your favorite dipping sauce, and enjoy every crispy, chocolatey bite.
