Old Fashioned Candied Sweet Potatoes With Orange Juice

Learn to make the best baked sweet potatoes in a delicious orange juice and brown sugar glaze. This Old-Fashioned candied sweet potatoes recipe serves as an ideal side dish for your holiday meal.

Heat the oven to 400°F. Grease a 9 or 8-inch pan (I used 8x11 inch) or a 2-quart baking dish baking dish with olive oil or butter.  Place the sweet potatoes evenly in the prepared dish.

In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, melted butter, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, orange juice, orange zest, vanilla, maple, and ginger until well combined.

Evenly pour the brown sugar mixture over the sweet potatoes. Gently toss the potatoes to coat them in the sauce. Bake for 45-50 minutes, pausing to stir every 15-20 minutes.

Once baked, let the yams rest briefly. This allows flavors to combine and textures to settle, resulting in even more tenderness and a delightful caramelized finish.
